239 Arabidopsis sequence accession numbers not including ESTs or GSSs last modified Jan. 17, 2001. The NR section of genbank was searched for P450 hits by TBLASTN using 11 P450 sequences. CYP71B9, 705A1, 77A4, 90A1, 96A1, 72A7, 74A, 51A2, 710A1, 97B3, 711A1. These represented all the P450 clans in Arabidopsis. The output from each search was scanned for new accession numbers. The first search with 71B9 did not find all the 71 clan P450s in Arabidopsis, so the CYP77A4 and 705A1 searches were done to find these missing sequences. After examining the missed accession numbers, it was found that these no longer contained P450 sequences for reasons described below. Once these numbers were deleted from the list the 71B9 sequence found all full length P450s in the 71 clan. CYP90A1 found all full length members of the CYP85 clan. It missed CYP87A3P. This shows that some partial sequences and pseudogenes may have been missed by this search strategy. The only way to be sure that all fragments are found is to search with a sequence from each of the 45 Arabidopsis families. That is 34 more searches. I felt the return on such an extensive search was likely to be very small, so I have not done it. I did do five searches with families not found in Arabidopsis, CYP80, 92, 99, 719 and 723. No members of these families were found in Arabidopsis. 20 accession numbers for P450s have been withdrawn for several reasons. Some of these were preliminary sequences from clones that were completed under another accession number. Some overlapped another accession number and only one retained the sequence in the final version. Some sequences were withdrawn from Genbank at the request of the submitter. These genomic sequences are from a different strain to identify polymorphisms. These GSS accession numbers start with AQ. At least 48 of these sequences are P450s and they match 25 different Arabidopsis P450s and two match a Deinococcus radiodurans bacterial P450 at 44% identity. This clone may be a contamination of the genomic library. It does not resemble any other plant P450 at this high level.
